The Hungry Tourist is very proud to present a new line of tours:

A 4-Day Tokyo Must-Eat Food Tour

with The Ramen Beast

May  18 – 21, 2026

A Personal Note

from the hungry tourist

I’m genuinely excited to launch this new line of shorter, more accessible Tokyo tours.

For years, I’ve wanted to create a way for more food lovers to experience the very best of Tokyo without the time and cost commitment of our longer programs, and this is exactly that. Just as importantly, I’m thrilled to be doing it in collaboration with Abram Plaut, aka The Ramen Beast.

I’ve known Abram for nearly ten years. We’ve traveled together to more than twenty countries, always for food,

and spent countless hours eating, debating, laughing, and talking about everything under the sun. Beyond his undisputed authority in the world of ramen, Abram has a deep, serious understanding of fine dining and Japanese cuisine as a whole. And on top of that, he’s simply one of the coolest, fun, and interesting guys to hang with, at a table or away from it.

These tours are going to rock. Spots are limited, so if this speaks to you, don’t wait. Secure your place now.

This four-day journey is about eating the very best Tokyo has to offer, often in restaurants that are almost impossible to book, and understanding why they matter.

From pristine sushi counters and refined tempura to exceptional unagi and soba, the program then moves decisively into the Tokyo of today: ramen at its most evolved, elite yakitori and yakiniku, wagyu and Japanese steak houses, touches of kaiseki, and the vibrant casual and street-food culture that defines how the city truly eats.

The experience is guided by Abram Plaut, known globally as The Ramen Beast, a rare insider with decades of lived experience in Japan, deep cultural fluency, and personal relationships across the country’s culinary world.

With Abram, this is not about hype or rankings. It’s about access, context, and eating extraordinarily well—consistently, deliberately, and at the highest level.

HIGHLIGHTS

This four-day journey offers the very best selection of Tokyo’s food scene, thoughtfully curated to show the city in full—past, present, and alive. At its core are Tokyo’s classical foundations: sushi, tempura, unagi, and soba—the four pillars born in Edo that shaped everything that followed.

From there, the experience expands into modern Tokyo, covering ramen, yakiniku, yakitori, wagyu and Japanese steaks, a touch of kaiseki, and the vibrant world of casual and street food that defines how the city truly eats today.

Four pillars, four days, seven meals, plus an insider visit to Toyosu Fish Market.

Toyosu is the beating heart of Tokyo’s culinary ecosystem—and the star highlight of this tour. This insider visit offers rare, behind-the-scenes insight into the world’s most important seafood market, grounding every sushi counter, every bowl, and every menu you’ll experience afterward in real context. It’s where understanding replaces abstraction, and where Tokyo’s obsession with quality becomes tangible.
