The Juicy Details

Our itinerary day by day

May 1

Frantzen

A PERFECT STORM!

A visit to 3 Michelin stars Frantzen is like stepping for a few hours to a perfect world.

Everything from the entrance hall, the elevator to the lounge, the dining counter in front of the open kitchen, the service, the ingredients, the most delicious menu, the impeccable wine pairing to it and to the smoker’s balcony is perfect.

Bjorn Frantzen’s vision of perfect hospitality is executed to the smallest detail by his dedicated team.

May 2

Fäviken

The first time I went to Faviken it took me 5 flight and 3 hours in a car to get there. And it was amazing! I sat on the sole seat inside Magnus Nilsson’s kitchen and was mesmerized by the magic happening in front of my eyes.

The second time I went to Faviken, it took us only 2 flights (from Copenhagen) and about an hour drive, and it was even more fun. Because I was with another 12 Hungry Tourists who appreciated the road to Faviken as much as the appreciated the 18 hours we spent in Magnus Nilsson’s paradise in this remote part of Sweden’s heartland.

A visit to Faviken is an absolute must-do at least once in a lifetime for every foodie.

May 3

The Alchemist

How many people get to do something that was never done before?

Well, Chef Rasmus Munk, the Alchemist, is one of these rare people.

In a couple of months, he will open the new Alchemist. The most anticipated restaurant opening since Noma 2.0 opened at the beginning of 2018.

Only that the Alchemist is no restaurant in any shape or form we know.

I suggest reading what my friend, Kat Odell, wrote for Blumberg last month:

A Meal of 50 Courses Over 6 Hours. Is This the Future of Dining?

All I can say after visiting the site with Rasmus last week is that once the Alchemist will be open, it will be the most difficult place to get in. For years to come.

Rasmus will host us for a special dinner, whether the Alchemist is officially open or not.

May 4

Noma

A NEVER ENDING FOUNTAIN OF CREATIVITY!

This was how I felt about Noma after I completed their 3 seasonal menus this year.

Rene Redzepi and his 100 strong army of young, creative and highly motivated chefs, are constantly operating at the frontier of gastronomy.

It takes some effort to get used to the idea (or even grasp it)  that no one can ever again have the perfect menu they just had in Noma.

This thought can be painful when I remember some of the extraordinary dishes I’ve had this year, but apparently not to Redzepi and his team, they are always looking forward. To the next challenge.

May 5 – 7

The Faroe Islands

I thought that it would be a good idea to let Judith Olney, who became a very dear friend of mine last year in the Faroes, to write in her own words about the experience:

“Months later I’m still pondering the extraordinary Faroe Islands.  Everything a questing, curious culinary tourist could desire.  The haunting landscape, the atmospheric sea, wind, and permeating salt.

The most curious foods sprung from both long history and the immediacy of the turning seasonal year.  Why, how did these unique taste profiles occur – the inner anthropologist wants to know, to taste, to understand.

The Hungry Tourist has enlisted the most knowledgeable guide on the island and the food and tastes you will remember….unforgettable.   “

Testimonials

Usually, arrange my own food tours but when I saw Dudi’s brilliant schedule of Scandinavian stops, I knew I could not better him.

What a treat, the trip of a lifetime with a caring and truly connected leader. I’m planning another trip with him soon. Catch him anywhere you can. The best.

Judith Olney, Palm Beach

Amazing time with this guy feasting on world-class food. Thank you for opening doors to new culinary worlds, really looking forward to future experiences. Can’t wait!

Abram Plaut, Tokyo

Sensual, exciting, amazingly tasty.
Great group of foodies with a common passion and a lot of respect for people in general and the group members in particular. Friends who become happy when they meet fresh ingredients, perfect technique and extraordinary creativity on a plate.
